I was once told
by a wise woman that I know
that as you grow old
you’ll find the simple things in life
that are more valuable than gold

in life we’re so busy gathering and sowing
from the abundant harvest of our soul
and we acquire more than we know
until one day we have to let it all go

and the simple things in life that are free
like the joy of just being able to see
the beauty of sunrise
the wonder of a master tree

the simple joy of sharing
what it’s like to be silent for an hour
to sit and allow yourself to be
present in this pure moment of reality

it’s the simple things life brings
a walk in nature with a friend
a swim in the ocean
a smile from the heart that you extend

and when we leave this life
we may have a life to review
and it’s the memories of love
that will shine a light on you

it’s not about acquiring expensive things
it’s not about fame you seek
it’s more important to value
the gift of simple things
